Public Trust Attacks Its Grey Image

Published: Mon 6 Mar 2000 04:53 PM
Public Trust says its new marketing campaign, launched yesterday, aims to show the public that the Government-owned business now has a modern style that belies its 126-year history.
"We're self-funded," said Public Trustee David Hutton. "Taxpayers own us but they don't have to pay for us. That means we need to make sure we can stand out in the market. The key is to get on people's 'shopping lists' when they need trustee or financial services."
Mr Hutton said too many people saw Public Trust as solely a will-maker, with a grey image that hid the up-to-date broader range of services it sold.
"We decided to work harder to change the picture to one that's really representative of what we do today. That was how we came up with 'Your Word is Law', a promise to customers we believe many of the competition can't make."
Public Trust's advertising programme is part of a wider change plan for the organisation that has seen staff given refresher training in
"straightforward" customer service.
The new campaign began last night and will be supported today (Monday) by the Minister in Charge of the Public Trust, Hon Jim Anderton, who is to address a press conference.
