IRD should be run by best person for the Job

Published: Wed 15 Dec 1999 09:05 AM
No time for political correctness
The best person available should head the IRD, says National MP Annabel Young.
“It is nonsense for Government MPs to suggest that a politically correct outsider should be appointed, regardless of merit. The State Services Commission must run a proper selection process. They must look for the best person they can find, whether that person comes from inside or outside the organization.”
Annabel Young says that it will be hard to find anyone who is prepared to take the IRD job on, even before they start looking for the right talents and skills. “Left-wing MPs have made a sport of attacking public servants. This may now come to haunt them.”
