1.6 million New Zealanders Can't Be Wrong - ACT

Published: Mon 29 Nov 1999 01:10 PM
ACT Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide today said the big winner on Saturday night was those wanting tougher sentences for criminals and fewer MPs.
"1.6 million New Zealanders can't be wrong. That's how many want tougher sentencing.
"1.5 million New Zealanders want fewer MPs. They too are right in their judgement.
"These referenda results are the first test for the new Labour/Alliance government. Are they going to listen to what people want? Or are they going to stick with their idealogical blinkers and naked self interst. The people have spoken. It's well-past time MPs listened," said Rodney Hide.
