Clark’s Comments Misleading and Deceitful - ACT

Published: Mon 15 Nov 1999 03:04 PM
ACT Leader Hon Richard Prebble said today “Helen Clark’s comment that ACT would fund the tax cuts through asset sales is incorrect misleading and deceitful.
“She, in a statement today, said ACT would sell amongst other things roads and schools.
“This is desperate. Annette King said today no new hospitals would be built if ACT was in government and a billion dollars would be cut from health.
“This is incorrect though consistent with Labour’s statements on ACT policy.
“If either Ms Clark or Ms King took the trouble to read our policies they would see; as Infometrics has again confirmed today, that we will fund our tax cuts not by reducing the current level of services but removing the slush fund, the $2.7 billion through which Helen Clark wants to finance her 160 new ministries, departments, offices, schemes and funds.
“ACT has said TVNZ should be sold, and while the government may not have any business running other businesses, for the record TVNZ is the only asset that ACT is proposing to sell and for which we seek a mandate at this election,“ said ACT Leader Hon Richard Prebble.
