The New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, has urged MPs Robyn McDonald and Jenny Bloxham to accept the
democratic result of the New Zealand First Council List selection.
He said today that the party followed the democratic process in which nineteen representatives, appointed by the party,
came to a result, knowing that some individuals would not be happy with the outcome.
“That is democracy, they are the rules and we all have to live by them.
“I myself did not want to go on the list, being happy to represent, as I have for many years, the people of Tauranga,
but the party over ruled me and I accepted that decision.
“All MP’s must remember that we only have a three year contract and that we have to live with the judgment of our party
and our peers – as all workers do.
“It is important to remember that the further down the list you go, the more difficult it is for candidates to accept,
but I should point out that no New Zealand First candidate has been told to step aside for another party, and nor has
any New Zealand First voter been told to vote for another party.
“The New Zealand First list comprises very fine candidates and many will become Parliamentarians.
“That is what the whole party is working towards.” Mr Peters said.
