Nice Pamphlets—Where’s the Policy?
New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, has congratulated the National Party on producing the most glossy and expensive, but empty, pamphlets in New Zealand’s political history with its ‘Election Blueprint’.
“It’s a bit like the famous Wendy’s advertisements—“where’s the beef?”. There are no initiatives to help our exporters, no new economic direction, only more of the same sugar-coated policies. There is nothing that will even begin to redress the persistent balance of payments deficit.
“New Zealand First says that there are fundamental problems with the way New Zealand’s economy is currently functioning. It is simply not delivering the social objectives that New Zealanders deserve.
“Mrs Shipley and her Treasurer are miles apart. Mrs Shipley is promising tax cuts, both corporate and personal, while Mr English is promising only corporate tax reductions. Treasury argues that one can’t be done without the other.
“New Zealand First will set in place policies aimed at trebling our exports within twenty years. It is only in this growth environment that we can even begin to tackle unemployment and retake our place in the world,” concluded Mr Peters.
