MEDIA STATEMENT
Shipley's Regret At Coalition Collapse Unbelieveable To Peters - And New Zealand
The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today said that Jenny Shipley's comments in the Sunday Star Times (17/10/99) that she wished him well in politics and was personally very sorry when the National/New Zealand First Coalition collapsed, are simply unbelievable.
"How can Mrs Shipley say, with any sincerity, that she was personally sorry when the Coalition collapsed when she did everything she could to undermine it and the Leader of her coalition partner with backstabbing and conspiring with New Zealand First Ministers on the promise of jobs to get them to abandon their duty to the electorate.
"I do not believe her - and I am sure New Zealand does not believe her either," said Mr Peters.
