Justice Minister Tony Ryall today pledged that National will strengthen Police powers for combating drug dealers and
other organised crime.
“We want known criminals to explain how they can own expensive cars and houses while collecting a social welfare
benefit” said Mr Ryall.
“Too many drug dealers are getting to keep their blood money even after they’ve been caught and imprisoned”.
Tony Ryall promised a major revamp of the Proceeds of Crimes Act 1991 to give the Police a stronger weapon in the war
against organised crime.
“In a half-hearted response Labour's Justice spokesperson Phil Goff re-wrote my media statement replacing ‘Minister of
Justice, Tony Ryall’, with Opposition Spokesman, Phil Goff’. Brilliant!
"Mr Goff concluded his retort by saying ‘the public deserves more than just political rhetoric six weeks out from an
election’.
“The public certainly deserve more than just political rhetoric 5 weeks 6 days and 18 hours out from an election. Surely
an intelligent man like Phil Goff can come up with some policy of his own.
“I’ll be making some more significant announcement to reduce crime shortly, Phil. You had better get the photocopier and
carbon paper ready,” said Mr Ryall.
