ACT's Welfare spokesperson Muriel Newman said today "the Alliance's tax policy which promises beneficiaries an extra 20
dollars a week, offers no hope and no vision for New Zealanders who need real jobs."
"The Alliance's tax policy will do nothing to promote economic growth and more jobs for this country," said Muriel
Newman.
"Jim Anderton and his party has again taken the soft option, instead of providing real solutions the Alliance simply
plans to continue to throw taxpayers money at problems that have been embedded in our welfare system for years."
"The question must be asked what is the Alliance really trying to achieve? 20 dollars a week wouldn't even buy an extra
meal for most family's living on a benefit. It's a band aid over the gaping wounds in the Welfare system."
"An extra 20 dollars a week for those genuinely incapable of supporting themselves isn't going to change a thing,
assistance should be generous enough to provide a decent quality of living."
"ACT's policies have a clear direction, infrastructure can be put in place to insure the welfare system becomes a safety
net not a way of life."
