New Zealand First MP Gilbert Myles is concerned that terrorists could be entering New Zealand because of lax
investigation procedures.
In reply to a question from Mr Myles, Mr Delamere replied that it was possible that some refugee status claimants
granted residence in New Zealand were considered terrorists in their country of origin.
“The Minister cannot tell me definitely if we have let terrorists in New Zealand or not. He informs they would be likely
to fail good character requirements, but again he can give no guarantees.
“For the safety of our communities we need to be surer than this! What exactly are our screening processes and do they
go far enough? Many refugee status claimants do not have documentation,” said Mr Myles.
“The government seem to have no idea whether terrorists – defined as a person who uses or favours violent and
intimidating methods of coercing a government or community – are living here or not.
“We as politicians must ensure that we protect our country and people from such scenes as the Russian bombings witnessed
on our new items.
“The Minister must close New Zealand’s gates to terrorists. Our investigation procedures must be tightened.”
