“National intends to put in a 110% effort to ensure it once again wins the Party Vote in Wellington Central. Our team is
geared up and our message will be very visual,” said National’s Wellington Central electorate chairperson Bridget-Anne
Fowler.
Mrs Fowler’s comments follow the National Party’s announcement that the party will not be standing a constituency
candidate in Wellington Central for the election.
“National remains committed to the Wellington region and is lucky to have a wonderful range of very able List candidates
based here, including Annabel Young, Kerry Prendergast, Dale Stephens, and Stephen Rainbow.
In the last election National gained over 35% of Party Vote in Wellington Central, more than seven percent ahead of
Labour.
“National’s candidates will be very busy and visible throughout Wellington. It is complete rubbish for Labour to say we
are letting down National voters. Wellington voters will still be able to tick National, and believe me we will be
giving them plenty of reasons as to why they should.”
Mrs Fowler said the Labour/Alliance bloc refuses to understand and work with the spirit of MMP. Subsequently, they will
be the losers.
“We are completely open with our political allies and the public, but Labour and Alliance on the other hand prefer to
play First-Past-The-Post politics. While they battle amongst themselves, we will be busy securing another centre-right
victory for Wellington Central,” she said.
