Wool Board Chairman, Bruce Munro is saying he will step down if remits calling for a vote of no confidence in the Wool
Board at the Board's AGM on October 19 proved to be representative of grower feeling.
ACT Rural Spokesman Owen Jennings today said that four separate remits of no confidence in the Wool Board would be put
to the AGM. The motions all express the opinion that the Wool Board has failed to fulfil its obligation to improve wool
grower returns and should therefore be removed.
"Wool growers will note those comments in the light of previous undertakings by Mr Munro and his fellow directors that
they would resign if Fernmark didn't achieve and increase returns to growers. The wool price actually fell 8% but none
of the Board honoured their pledge," he said.
"If the no confidence motion is not defeated by a substantial majority the Board should resign and put the Board's
affairs into the hands of a Commissioner appointed by growers themselves in the interim.
"The situation is now serious with wool growers in deep despair and the Board and its staff lurching from one ill
conceived idea to another," said Owen Jennings.
