To All Member of Parliament
Dear Member
To enable members to reconsider the lowering of the legal drinking age that will be enacted by the passing of the Sale of Liquor Amendment Bill No2. I will be asking the Chair of the Committee for separate voting on the following parts and schedule.
Part 1:
Clause 2 (2), (3), and (4)
Clause 74
Clause 76
Clause 79
Clause 80
Clause 81
Clause 83
Clause 84
Schedules:
Schedule 2 (changes the summary offences Act)
I will be requesting a personal vote on each.
To reinstate the minimum legal drinking age to 20 you will need to vote against these clauses. In total they will change the age back to 20 without affecting the rest of the bill.
I strongly urge you, in the light of public condemnation of the lowering of the minimum drinking age, to vote against these clauses. We have the opportunity at this stage to recognise the huge weight of public concern at the actions of Parliament in the vote on the first committee stage of this bill.
Best regards
Hon Robyn McDonald, MP
