ACT Justice Spokesman Patricia Schnauer said the Prime Minister's refusal today either to back Police Commissioner Peter
Doone or sack him from the Incis project was completely unacceptable.
"The uncertainty over the Incis debacle for front line Police and taxpayers was bad enough without the Prime Minister
side stepping on whether she had confidence in the man in charge of the project for the Police.
"How can the Police on the beat or taxpayers have confidence that resources are being spent properly if the Prime
Minister doesn't?
"It is time we had much better performance measures across the public sector. This type of waste and mismanagement of
taxpayers hard earned money is disgraceful. If company directors spent shareholders money with such a lack of
accountability they would be sued.
"The National Government has shown an appalling lack of leadership on this issue and the public will be the ones to
judge them on that. However, Peter Doone has been involved in this project since its inception. Rather than threatening
IBM he must take responsibility for his part in a project that has blown $127.6 million so far for no benefit to front
line Police.
"I believe there are two things that now must happen to restore the confidence of the Police and taxpayers and to get
the technology resources the Police so desperately need. First Peter Doone should resign. Secondly there must be a full
inquiry into the Incis project before another dollar is spent on it.
"What is important is that the National Government must not be allowed to hide behind possible Court litigation as an
excuse not to hold a full inquiry. The public have a right to why their money has been spent on a white elephant," said
Patricia Schnauer.
