Creech – “Chamberlain Of The Food Chains”

Published: Thu 5 Aug 1999 11:45 AM
New Zealand First has called on the Health Minister to explain why he has sold out to food chains over GMF and irradiated food.
The Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, said today that Wyatt Creech had come back from a meeting over GMF in Australia with less than he went with.
“After all the talk, consumers have still not won the right to have clearly defined labelling. What on earth is the use of a label on a can of sweet corn that says some of the contents MIGHT be genetically engineered?”
Mr Peters said that New Zealanders are now rightly furious that the Minister has bowed to the multi-nationals and allowed his bureaucrats to approve “nuked” food.
“Wyatt Creech has become the chamberlain of the food chains. Who gave him the right to sell us down the river over this issue?
“What public consultation preceded this?
“Who did he consult over this issue? Wyatt Creech has some explaining to do.” Mr Peters said.
