Media Release -- Economy
ACT MP and Finance Spokesperson Rodney Hide is strongly backing the Auckland Business Transport Forum's proactive approach to resolving the city's transport problems.
Rodney Hide says "the Lobby group has hit the mark" and as ACT's Epsom Candidate he wants to meet with Form Members.
"Auckland City Council's lack of initiative is costing the city's money makers $100 million dollars a year through time wasted in traffic. The total cost of Auckland's congestion is estimated at $755 million a year.
"Auckland's traffic gridlock could be fixed if the Auckland City Council got rid of it's own gridlock to resolving the transport problem."
"Aucklanders are getting up earlier and earlier to beat traffic, the problem is not with those who drive to work but successive councils who have failed in their job of providing for the transport needs of the city."
"Auckland City can no longer ignore the concerns of Aucklanders, if the Council bureaucrats keep their heads in the sand any longer they'll totally destroy the economic potential of the great city of Auckland," said Rodney Hide.
