New Zealand First Maori Candidate For Waiariki Seat
An outstanding Maori woman has been selected as the New Zealand First candidate for the new Waiariki electorate.
She is Kahukore Baker who was raised and educated in Opotiki. She is of Whakatohea descent although she affiliates to iwi throughout the Waiariki electorate.
Ms Baker worked for the Clerical Workers Union and the New Zealand Post Primary Teachers Association as a Field Officer before joining Te Puni Kokiri.
Her current position as a Senior Analyst in the Social Policy Branch, Te Puni Kokiri, has allowed Ms Baker to deepen her understanding of the social, economic and educational problems facing Maori.
She has a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Education, and is currently submitting her thesis for her Masters degree.
New Zealand First Maori Affairs spokesperson, Tutekawa Wyllie, says Ms Baker is an outstanding candidate with extensive networks throughout the Waiariki electorate.
