Alliance / Labour Tax Seesaw

Published: Fri 30 Jul 1999 03:30 PM
"Labour needs to declare their position regarding the Alliance tax proposals," said National List MP, Hon Peter Gresham today.
While Labour are prepared to count on the support of Alliance in order to gain the treasury benches they are by implication accepting the Alliance tax agenda, which includes such things as capital gains tax, stamp and estate duty and land tax.
"Higher personal taxes as proposed by Labour and expansion of the tax base as proposed by Alliance will kill economic growth, led to higher unemployment for the unskilled and exodus for actual and potential high earners" said Mr Gresham.
Jim Anderton is prepared to be up front on the way Alliance will fund their promises. Unless Michael Cullen emphatically rejects Alliance tax plans Labour is tarred with the Anderton brush.
Labour can not be Government without Alliance and the price for their support will cost this country dearly if voters are gulled by the Labour/Alliance promises.
