New Zealand First MP Ron Mark says he fears for Christchurch families in the wake of the vote to allow beer sales in the
city’s supermarkets.
“There are women in our city who struggle daily to feed and clothe their families on meager incomes, be that a low wage
or a benefit.
“Many of those women are pressured by ‘Jake the Muss’ partners who already take their beer money from the household
first.
“What worries me now is that even the little that those women have left for groceries will be siphoned off”, said Mr
Mark.
“I know there will be those men who, on hearing that their partner is about to go to the supermarket, will tell them to
“get a slab while you’re there”.
“I also know that there will be serious consequences for many of those women who arrive home without it.
“Leanne Dalziel and Ruth Dyson should remember – ‘Jake the Muss’ doesn’t drink wine”, said Mr Mark.
