Gun Registration Won't Address Real Cause of Crime

ACT Justice Spokesman Patricia Schnauer today said politicians had today taken the easy option in voting to send the Arms Amendment Bill to Select Committee.
"ACT was the only party in Parliament that voted not to sent the Bill, that would see compulsory gun registration, to Select Committee because the measure does nothing to address the real causes of crime. Gun control is not crime control.
"ACT does not support gun registration because it is a costly, feel-good measure that will penalise law abiding New Zealanders and will do nothing to keep New Zealanders safe from criminals with guns.
"Law and Order is a key issue for New Zealanders. Gun registration will do nothing to keep New Zealanders safer on the streets or in their homes. What New Zealanders are calling for and Parliament is ignoring are measures that deal with the real causes of crime," said Patricia Schnauer.
