LOTTERY PROFIT ALLOCATIONS
The country's sporting and arts/culture organisations will share in almost $63million in Lottery profits in the coming
year, Lottery Grants Board Chairperson and Internal Affairs Minister Jack Elder announced today.
The Hillary Commission for Sport, Fitness and Leisure will receive $27.08 million, an increase of $80,000 over funding
received for the 1998/99 financial year, he said.
The Hillary Commission also receives an additional $3.8075 million for its special high performance sports fund.
Creative New Zealand's Lottery profit share rises from last year's $20.25 million to $20.310 million.
Mr Elder said in addition the Grants Board will continue its five-year funding commitment to the Arts Foundation of New
Zealand to allow for the establishment of a capital endowment base.
"The Board is right behind this initiative which will see arts in this country become more self sufficient," Mr Elder
said. "It agreed last year the Arts Foundation will receive $1 million until the year 2002/3."
Mr Elder said up to $1 million has also been set aside for the creation and presentation of works of art specifically to
mark the new Millennium. Applications to this special Lottery Millennium Arts/Culture Fund close on July 31.
The New Zealand Film Commission also enjoys an increase with a funding level of $8.801 million compared to $8.75 million
in the previous financial year.
Mr Elder said allocations will also go to Te Papa ($1.25 million) and the New Zealand Film Archive ($677,000).
