New Zealanders are voting with their feet with a net 10,000 leaving New Zealand in the past 12 months, National’s
Finance Spokesperson Amy Adams says.
“Today’s Stats NZ migration data shows that a net 10,000 Kiwis left our shores in the past 12 months, picking up
significantly late last year. Since Stats NZ has tracked this figure there have never been more Kiwis leaving our
shores.
“It is a sign that Kiwis are losing confidence in the Government’s economic management, as other real data shows fewer
jobs and slowing GDP growth.
“The Government needs to get its priorities right and focus on what really matters to Kiwis: more jobs, higher incomes
and a lower cost of living. That is the best way to improve New Zealand’s international competitiveness and ensure we
retain our best and brightest.
“Last time National came to office we turned the tide on the number of Kiwis leaving our shores, but the Labour-led
Government is again turning people away with its economic mismanagement.”
