Government must commit to Melling

MP for Hutt South Chris Bishop is calling on the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) and the Government to provide at least some good transport news for the Hutt and commit to a new interchange at Melling.
“The new interchange project, years in the planning, was placed under review thanks to the Government’s Transport Policy Statement which forced a re-evaluation of existing projects.
“Hutt residents are sick of waiting for an answer from NZTA on the project. Last week Hutt Valley Mayor Ray Wallace successfully moved a unanimous motion through the regional transport committee, calling on NZTA for an urgent decision on the project.
“National promised at the last election to fast track the project and it would have been far in advance by now. Instead we have had delay after delay and rumours that the project will be canned completely or further delayed for some considerable time.
“Following the cancellation of the Petone to Grenada Link Road last week and the ever evolving debacle of the ‘Let’s Get Wellington Moving’ project, Hutt residents deserve some good news.
“The Government must commit to Melling, give Hutt residents some certainty, and just get on with the job.”
