The Greens’ continuing rejection of genetic engineering is further proof it is really just a socialist party for whom
science is an afterthought, according to ACT Leader David Seymour.
Newshub reported this morning that Green Party Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage has said ‘no’ to the idea of using GE
to fight introduced predators like rats, stoats and possums in a bid to save New Zealand’s wildlife.
“In its embrace of Marxism, the Greens have forgotten their environmentalist roots.
“New Zealand could be a world-leader in developing GE technology and caring for native wildlife if it weren’t for
anti-science politicians.
“Elsewhere, the rejection of GE crops by groups like the Greens and Greenpeace has held back efforts to feed the third
world.
"The party has monopolised this piece of political real estate for years while doing little for the environment.
“But the Greens also reject capitalism while forgetting that free market economies have the best record on the
environment. That’s because property rights create incentives for people to care for the planet and because those
countries are wealthier and can afford greater environmental protection.
“Caring for the environment is an important part of being a New Zealander. But it must be accompanied by market
principles like property rights.
"The worst environmental disasters occurred in countries like the Soviet Union because nobody owned property and no one
enforced the law against polluters.
“If they really cared about the environment, the Greens would drop their socialist economics, and embrace science and
free markets.”
