New Zealanders to benefit from Green Party HYEFU initiatives
Green Party Co-leader James Shaw is welcoming the half-year opening of the Government books today, which presents the most significant government funding for Green Party initiatives ever.
“Today marks the critical first step in implementing our 20-point plan, outlined in the Green Party’s confidence and supply agreement with Labour,” said Mr Shaw.
“This is what having the Green Party in government looks like – more funding for DOC, for cycleways, for tackling climate change, and a host of other important initiatives.
“These are only initial costings, and aspects of our plan are still to be developed, but this is an exciting and important start for our government.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the announcement of the Government’s Families’ Package.
“The Green Party has long campaigned on welfare reform and child poverty. Today’s announcement will put more money into the pockets of the New Zealanders who need it the most.
“Our job as politicians is to ensure no Kiwi kid grows up in poverty.
“Lifting 88,000 children out of poverty by 2020/2021 shows the commitment of the government parties to this important goal.
“The Families’ Package provides the basis for which the Green Party will continue to push for further welfare reform over the next three years and beyond,” said Mr Shaw.
