TIN200 report – Wellington a major contributor to growth
List MP Brett Hudson welcomed the release of the TIN200 report showing that Wellington technology businesses made a great contribution to revenue and job growth over the past year, helping the sector to reach annual global revenues of $10 billion for the first time.
“The sector grew over 10 per cent over the past year, adding $200 million revenue and 767 jobs across greater Wellington,” Mr Hudson says.
Having entered Parliament in 2014 after a 20-year career in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, Mr Hudson was pleased to see the major contribution the ICT industry made to the overall growth (58.5 per cent of the overall revenue growth.)
“These results underscore the investments the National-led Government has made in R and in developing the skills to support technology-based industries over the past nine years,” Mr Hudson says.
“They highlight Wellington as the innovation capital of New Zealand and show the great career opportunities available here.
“With such a vibrant and innovative environment, it is little wonder that so many people – nearly 50,000 – responded to Wellington’s recent LookSee initiative to attract talent to the capital.
“It really reinforces that Wellington is the best city in New Zealand to live, work and raise a family.”
