New social housing to be built in Johnsonville
National List MP based in Ōhāriu, Brett Hudson, is delighted to support the announcement made today by Social Housing
and Housing New Zealand Minister Amy Adams, which sees the Government investing $48.5 million in social housing across
five sites in the Wellington region.
Work has begun on the construction of 145 new homes, which will all be fully insulated, energy efficient, filled with
light and have modern interiors. The first are expected to be ready by June 2018.
Construction will begin on 21 one-bedroom units in Johnsonville in December this year on the corner of Phillip Street
and Frankmoore Avenue, following an announcement made by Housing New Zealand in December 2016. The three two-storey
blocks will target elderly or mature tenants with no children and will be close to public amenities and transport links.
Included in the designs are off-street parking spaces and both private and communal outdoor areas. The Johnsonville
development is expected to be completed by September 2018.
This announcement highlights the Government’s commitment to social housing and the growing demand for high quality
homes.
