English’s Statements of “Assurances” Against His Record of Attacks on NZ Super
Changing the age of entitlement at 20 years from now is an effort to look responsible by the Prime Minister whilst not
actually doing anything, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Clearly Mr English has been caught in a maelstrom of his own making and any promises of indexation or universality must
be set against his having gone back on that, three times in his political career.
“The good news is of course that he is finally listening to New Zealand First’s call for a fairer residency
qualification, albeit taking up to 20 years is five years short of what would be fair.
“What Mr English has failed to tell the public is the content of his discussions with both Treasury and his colleagues
on this matter.
“The only safeguard that the superannuitants of this country have uniquely remains New Zealand First,” says Mr Peters.
