PM Changes His Words to Launch Insult
Prime Minister John Key deliberately misled Parliament today over a statement he made about putting New Zealanders First.
“Mr Key was so overtaken in his rush to land an insult on New Zealand First that he put his foot in his mouth,” says Deputy Leader Ron Mark.
“On Tuesday Mr Key told the media that his Government has “a New Zealand first policy, we always try and employ New Zealanders first”.
“It was a Freudian slip, he knows just how beneficially effective our policies would be.
“When asked in Parliament today why that New Zealand first policy he spoke of had changed for SkyCity, Mr Key retorted saying he had used the words, ‘Kiwis first’ adding he was ‘fundamentally opposed to New Zealand First’.
“Mr Key was misleading members, the audio proves it. There’s no way ‘New Zealanders’ sounds like ‘Kiwis’.
Fletcher Construction, which is building a convention centre for SkyCity, which did a deal with the government, has let a contract which will mean some work will go to a US company in Thailand.
“New Zealand First would support Kiwi firms to buy goods and services in New Zealand and employ locals so they do not have to opt for cheaper goods made by lower-paid workers overseas,” says Mr Mark.
