Housing Propaganda Disguises National’s Nasty Attack
National is scheming, laying blame on the Auckland Council for the supercity’s woes under fake concern over the housing crisis, says New Zealand First Leader and MP for Northland Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“It’s a propaganda feint that Goebbels would be proud of. National has become autocratic, it is telling every council in this country, if you don’t do what we say and like, you’re out. They are interfering in local government.
“The Kaipara District Council has appointed a CEO of the Minister’s choice - too bad who the councillors are when elected in October. The appointment is for five years and will cost the ratepayers a fortune if things don’t go smoothly and the CEO is replaced.
“National has had eight years to deal with congested roads, queues at hospitals, housing issues, which Mr Key even recognised as a problem in 2007 in the last days of the Clark government.
“He blamed them for it, but has done absolutely nothing but play tiddlywinks with it since.
“To blame the Auckland council now - which was National’s child, and specifically ACT’s Rodney Hide’s - is just a lousy excuse for their policy failures.
“Flooding the city with nearly 40,000 new migrants each year, without telling the council that was the government’s plan, was both stupid and plain deceitful.
“All those people needed a place to live.”
