Coromandel MP: Good News For The Region’s Rest Homes
Coromandel MP Scott Simpson says there’s good news for the region’s rest homes as the Government announces a $10 million annual boost for aged residential care and dementia services.
Scott Simpson MP says ‘Aged care providers will get $7.5 million this financial year, and then an extra $10 million for the subsequent three years.’
He says ‘That adds up to a 5% increase in rest home bed subsidies from the beginning of October. ‘
‘For rest homes in the Coromandel, the great thing is that they can decide themselves how to spend the extra money. We expect most will use it to pay staff more.’
Another $2.5 million will be used as one-off funding towards dementia care pathways across district health boards and communities.
Mr Simpson said ‘As New Zealand’s population ages, we want to be prepared. That’s why we’re ensuring our seniors are well supported by the best care possible when they can no longer live at home.’
