Appointments to Public Trust Board
Justice Minister Judith Collins today announced the appointment of two new members to the Board of Public Trust.
Lyn Lim will replace retiring Board member Rodger Finlay and Michelle van Gaalen will join the Board to fill a current
vacancy.
“I congratulate Ms Lim and Ms van Gaalen on their appointments to the Board and I thank Mr Finlay for his five years’
service,” Ms Collins says.
“These two appointments will bring the Board back to strength and add a fresh perspective on Public Trust’s business and
customer base.”
Ms Lim and Ms van Gaalen will commence their one year term from today.
Biographies
Lyn Lim is an Auckland lawyer who has developed a number of governance roles in conjunction with her legal practice. Ms
Lim has a strong commercial focus and will bring knowledge of a range of aspects of the Public Trust’s business. In
particular Ms Lim has a wide ranging practice that includes estate management, trusts and property, but which also
encompasses commercial law at a corporate level. Ms Lim’s other board roles include being a member of the Council of
AUT, New Zealand Shareholders’ Association, Auckland Regional Facilities Amenities Funding Board and Deputy Chair of the
ASB Community Trust.
Michelle van Gaalen, of Auckland, is Director Strategy & Business Performance at the Bank of New Zealand, a role that she has held since 2013. She previously operated as a
consultant offering strategy and change management advice to a range of businesses. From 2006 to 2011 Ms van Gaalen was
Group Manager Retail for New Zealand Post with accountability for the entire retail business including finance, IT, HR,
strategy, operations and sales. Ms van Gaalen has particular skills in business transformation, strategy, customer and
market development. She has been a board member of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority since November 2012 and
was a Trustee of Chamber Music New Zealand from 2009 to 2014.
