Party Celebrates 21 Years at Annual Conference
New Zealand First party members and MPs will proudly celebrate the party’s 21st anniversary at its annual conference at
Alexandra Park Raceway, in Auckland, this weekend.
“The party was formed in July 1993 to battle for the rights of New Zealanders and we continue to play an important role
in Parliament, speaking out where we see injustices and holding the government to account,” says New Zealand First
Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Initially we were formed when the National Government broke its election promises, and we put a stake in the ground
over the New Zealand Super surcharge. We got the surcharge abolished.
“The party believes society should protect those most vulnerable. We brought in free doctor’s visits for under sixes,
and proposed its extension to all primary school children.
“New Zealand First fights for fairness and opportunity and opposes the unfettered free-market politics which continue to
result in the loss of public assets, jobs and social services.
“We have a strong set of policies in our manifesto and will be announcing some of them at the conference,” says Mr
Peters.
The conference will be opened by Auckland City Council Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse on Saturday morning. There will be other
guest speakers and Mr Peters will be give the Leader’s Address at 2pm on Sunday.
