Price Increases Make Life Even Tougher for Families
Low-income families continue to struggle with ever increasing prices, says New Zealand First.
“Sadly, far too many low-income families cannot afford basic necessities,” says Spokesperson for Social Policy

“Statistics New Zealand says food prices increased 1.8 per cent in the year to May 2014. The price of vegetables
increased 8.7 per cent, while the price of milk rose 11 per cent.
“The problem is far greater than one in five children living in poverty considering many parents and adults forego their
meals so children can eat.
“Breakfast clubs had to be established in low decile schools because the Government’s economic performance is a failure,
leaving families financially exhausted.
“New Zealand First wants to see flexible monetary policy to better control inflation so that incomes go further.
“New Zealand First supports economic policy that balances jobs and fair wages with export and employment growth.
“The Government’s economic policies have widened the divide between the haves and have-nots in this country,” says Mrs
Lole-Taylor.
