No Place for Elder Abuse in Our Society
This Sunday is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – a day that Coromandel MP Scott
Simpson says reminds us that there’s absolutely no place for the mistreatment of older people in our society.
Scott Simpson MP says “Age Concern is encouraging us all to pay more attention to the signs and realise that elder abuse
is happening in our communities.”
Mr Simpson says “Elder abuse can take many forms. It can be caused by action or inaction, leading to harm or distress.”
“We have a lot of senior citizens here in the Coromandel electorate. Like all citizens, they have the right to make
their own decisions, to feel safe and to live free of fear. Everyone in our society, no matter what their age, deserves
to be respected as a valued member of our families and our communities,” he says.
Age Concern’s Elder Abuse Awareness Week runs from on June 15-22.
