Labour wishes Darien Fenton the very best
Darien Fenton has made a significant contribution to the Labour movement in her nine years at Parliament, Labour Leader David Cunliffe says.
The Labour list MP today announced she will not be seeking re-election at the September election.
“Darien Fenton has been a strong voice for workers in Parliament, reflecting her former leadership role as the vice president of Council of Trade Unions and head of the Service & Food Workers Union.
“This included taking a leading role in the development of Labour’s industrial relations policy, particularly in the areas of the Living Wage, and occupational health and safety.
“Darien has also been a strong opponent of the Government’s moves to weaken collective bargaining and has fought hard to retain protections for our most vulnerable workers.
“She has held duties in caucus as junior whip and played a lead role in Labour’s North organisational hub, assisting Labour’s electorate teams across Auckland’s North Shore.
“Darien will continue to make an important contribution to our caucus until the election and will add Transport Safety to her list of portfolios.
“I am confident Darien will have an ongoing part to play in the Labour movement and the broader industrial relations sector with her outstanding skills and experience.
“I wish her all the best for the future,” David Cunliffe says.
