Unemployment never to return to pre-key levels
Treasury projections that show under the current Government’s policies, unemployment will never return to pre-Key levels are a scandal, says Labour Leader David Cunliffe.
“Mr Key is failing on jobs. His policies are not creating jobs for New Zealanders.
“Unemployment has increased by around 50% under National. There are approximately 50,000 more Kiwis unemployed today than when John Key came to power.
“ If National was to win a third term, by 2017 unemployment would still be nearly 5% and the number of people unemployed would be 25,000 higher than in 2008.
“Labour is determined to get Kiwis into work and get unemployment down as low as we can.
“We are rolling out a set of economic upgrade plans - including forestry, manufacturing, and monetary policy - that will give businesses a boost and create more jobs with higher wages.”
