Mosgiel community urged to rally behind pool project
Dunedin South MP Clare Curran has stressed the importance of the Mosgiel community engaging in talks with the Dunedin
City Council over the proposed Mosgiel pool project.
After sustained lobbying from the community, the DCC has agreed to a proposed amount of $30,000 in its Draft Annual
Plan, which would be used to support the Taieri Community Facilities Trust to investigate the redevelopment of pool
facilities in Mosgiel.
However full community engagement with the DCC Draft Annual Plan process is needed to ensure the redevelopment goes
ahead, Clare Curran said.
“The DCC Draft Annual Plan offers the chance for citizens to have their say on how their rates are being spent. The
process is vital to ensuring the community voice is heard and local democracy valued.”
“With only 262 submissions on the Draft Annual Plan last year the DCC is being sent the wrong message, one of apathy in
our communities.”
“A series of public meetings are being held which give the community the opportunity to engage with local councillors
over the Draft Annual Plan and the submission process. I would urge Mosgiel residents who have fought to keep the pool
project on the table to attend these public meetings and have their say,” Clare Curran said.
A public meeting is being held at Coronation Hall in Mosgiel on 3 April between 7-8pm. Local councillors and the Mayor
will be in attendance. I urge people to attend.
Submissions on the DCC Draft Annual Plan close at 5pm on Tuesday April 15th.
