Prostitutes Being Beaten While Government Procrastinates
New Zealand First MP Le’aufa’amulia Asenati Lole-Taylor is calling on the government to immediately pass her
“Prostitution (Control of Street Prostitutes and Their Clients) Amendment Bill to provide a form of safety for
prostitutes and their local communities.
This follows the savage beating of two prostitutes on the streets of Christchurch, and the on-going court case for the
murder of sex worker Mallory Manning.
“The excuses and bleating by the Government and the tax-payer funded New Zealand Prostitutes Collective is not enough.
Issues with street prostitution continue to occur.
“Many communities no longer feel safe while pimps and prostitutes control the streets at night. What happened in
Christchurch this week is further proof that as a country we need to remove prostitution from our streets and in to
private brothels.
“This will also help to protect the safety of prostitutes by providing them with somewhere safe to work.
“My Bill passed its first reading unanimously. It’s time for the Government to stop sitting on its hands and do
something that will have a positive effect for not only prostitutes but the communities they work in,” says Mrs
Lole-Taylor.
