AgResearch spending too much on GE
Figures revealed today show that AgResearch is spending a quarter of its research budget for forages on GE, the Green Party said today.
In answers provided to the Education and Science Select Committee, AgResearch has revealed it is spending 25 percent of its forage budget (focused on grasses and legumes) on GE techniques.
“We should be concentrating on supplying high-value, clean, green and safe food that our markets desire,” Green Party GE spokesperson Steffan Browning said.
“We can invest in research that supports our clean, green and safe brand.
“GE doesn’t fit with New Zealand’s high-value, clean, green and safe brand,” said Mr Browning.
