Kiwi Children Being Rushed into Chain Store Schooling
New Zealand First is alarmed overseas companies are circling to snap up taxpayers’ dollars for a slice of the charter
school pie.
According to reports, foreign businesses are showing interest in establishing charter schools, the latest inquiry being
from the United States.
Deputy Leader and Education spokesperson Tracey Martin is appalled the Government wants to put Kiwi children’s education
in the hands of foreign-owned companies that have one interest – making a profit.
“New Zealand charter schools already have millions of dollars of private assets paid for by the taxpayers and now
overseas companies are trying to take a share.
“New Zealand is being rushed down the path towards chain-store schooling for our children. These businesses can have
multiple schools, and won’t even need a registered teacher in every classroom.
“The Government is bamboozled by shiny objects and is champing at the bit to hand over any Kiwi resource that will turn
a dollar for them.
“Our schools must not be drawn into these empires of greed, schools are about educating our children and there is no
place for a business model in our classrooms.
“New Zealand First is opposed to charter schools.
“Our policy is to shut all charter schools and bring them back under the Education Act 1989. The schools will be
required to choose to either become a private school or adhere to the Act,” says Ms Martin.
