Minister’s Standards on Novopay Not up to the Mark
It’s time for heads to roll over the continuing fiasco of Novopay that has yet again left school staff underpaid or not
paid, says New Zealand First spokesperson for Education Tracey Martin.
“Today, the Minister Responsible for Novopay, Steven Joyce, made the understatement of the year when he announced that
the performance of Pay Period 23 was not good.
“Over 400 teachers were affected in this pay period – 234 were not paid and 175 underpaid, and he simply apologises.
“It’s time for Mr Joyce to clean up the mess once and for all.
“The Minister continues to blame the complexity of the education payroll but neglects to mention that this complexity is
not new.
“He downplays the consequences for school staff who have to do a juggling act with their pay, or lack of it, when
Novopay hits them. It is damaging their lives and bad for morale.
“We know for a fact that if a teacher didn’t meet the Government’s standards they would be gone – New Zealand First
suggests that the Government should be held to good employer standards or they should be gone too,” says Ms Martin.
