Greens welcome Bay of Plenty GE win
Green Party is welcoming Scion’s decision not to appeal the Environment Court decision on the inclusion of a precautionary approach to GE in the Bay of Plenty Regional Policy Statement.
Scion’s decision not to appeal the Environment Court decision means that the Bay of Plenty Regional Council will include a statement about the risk of GE in their Policy Statement.
“New Zealand’s clean green image is important for our agricultural exports. This decision protects our clean, green and safe image,” said Green Party GE spokesperson Steffan Browning.
“It’s disappointing that Regional Councils are now being forced to carry the burden of protecting our agricultural sector because the Government is missing in action on GE.
“This is a good decision that protects the interests of local farmers,” said Mr Browning.
