Kiwis fourth biggest gamblers in the world
New Zealanders are the fourth biggest gamblers per head of population in the world – a shameful figure that Peter Dunne must take action to remedy, says Labour’s Internal Affairs spokesperson Trevor Mallard.
“It is a disgrace that New Zealand is number four in the world for gambling, according to analysis in The Economist. We need tighter rules and greater controls on pokies.
“But the Government’s pokies for convention centre deal with SkyCity does the exact opposite. Under the deal gambling is going to get worse in this country, especially in Auckland.
“Now that Peter Dunne is Internal Affairs Minister he has much more influence on gambling policy. He must take responsibility for reducing losses,” Trevor Mallard says.
