Once again a New Zealand company has missed out on a major government project, says Rt Hon Winston Peters.
This comes after the Government awarded a multi-million dollar Defence contract to an American company for the purchase
of training aircraft and simulators.
“Hamilton-based Pacific Aerospace has been sidelined, missing out on a lucrative contract that would have boosted
business and provided jobs.
“This is a company that has loyally worked for our defence forces for decades.
“New Zealand First calls on the Government to immediately get behind our Buy New Zealand (Procurement) Bill.
“It will put hope back into our economy by supporting New Zealand workers and businesses and is in the Members ballot.
“The Government must have a buying process that gives preference to Kiwi firms and such a policy is long overdue.
“Our Bill would make it compulsory for government departments, state-owned companies, and local government bodies to
give first preference to New Zealand firms.
“It will take account of factors such as job creation or retention, tax revenue generated, and contribution to gross
domestic product during the tender process,” says Mr Peters.
