More Resources Needed to Close Down the “P” Drug Market
More police and law enforcement resources are urgently needed for the fight against the increasing methamphetamine trade
that threatens to wreck some communities, says Law and Order associate spokesperson Le’aufa’amulia Asenati Lole-Taylor.
She says manufacturers overseas seem to find New Zealand an appealing haven for their drug smuggling trade as shown by
the recent $7.8million worth of methamphetamine seized by Customs at Auckland Airport.
“There is increasing demand for this dangerous drug and a number of communities are becoming very concerned about the
problem of “P” in their midst.”
Mrs Lole-Taylor says she has been approached by a number of people worried about the situation but she says they are too
frightened to go to police because of fear of reprisals.
“The drug manufacturers and dealers get very heavy with people they regard as a threat to their operation.
“The only way to deal with the situation is for major anti-drugs operations involving all law enforcement agencies.
“Methamphetamine is a destructive drug that has infiltrated New Zealand communities and this has to stop.
“We urge the Government to make this a priority for 2014,” says Mrs Lole-Taylor.
