$280,000 for Coromandel conservation efforts
The Coromandel has received just under $280,000 in Department of Conservation funding to support the excellent work being carried out by local environment groups.
National MP for Coromandel Scott Simpson has congratulated Kiwis for Kiwi, Queen Elizabeth II National Trust and the Moehau Environment Group which have been named as recipients of Department of Conservation community conservation BioFund grants. The projects funded are:
Kiwis for Kiwi $43,478
Biodiversity Enhancement on Northern Coromandel $43,478
Waiaro Sanctuary Pest Management $54,000
Waikawau Bay Wetlands Project $52,174
Port Charles Rat Attack $49,929
Duck Creek Wetland Weed Control (Pauanui) $35,817
“The Department of Conservation is working with our communities to protect the plants, wildlife, landscapes, and habitats which make New Zealand unique,” said Mr Simpson.
“There were a record 160 applications received for the two Biofunds this year and to have so many local projects awarded funding is a bonus for the Coromandel’s landscapes. It’s great to see the hard work of local people being rewarded.
“I am proud that we have such champions for the environment in our electorate,” said Mr Simpson.
