Funding boost for Coromandel conservation efforts
National MP for Coromandel Scott Simpson has congratulated Kiwis for Kiwi and the Moehau Environment Group which have been named as recipients of Department of Conservation community conservation BioFund grants.
The groups each receive to $43,478 to continue their work on co-ordinating local Kiwi protection and revival strategies, and biodiversity enhancement and management.
“The Department of Conservation is working with our communities to protect the plants, wildlife, landscapes, and habitats which make New Zealand unique,” said Mr Simpson.
“There were a record 160 applications received for the two Biofunds this year and to have two local group awarded funding is a bonus for the Coromandel’s landscapes. It’s great to see the hard work of local people being rewarded.
“I am proud that we have such champions for the environment in our electorate,” said Mr Simpson.
