Surf lifesaving season gets underway
Coromandel MP Scott Simpson is wishing lifeguards around the Coromandel a safe and successful season as patrols get underway on many beaches this Labour weekend.
“The familiar sight of those red and yellow uniforms is a huge comfort for all who visit our beaches during the summer months. I urge all our residents and visitors to heed the advice and warnings of the lifeguards. They do a terrific job and deserve the utmost respect.”
“A large number of our surf lifeguards are volunteers who donate their time and skills to keeping us safe in the water. It is a tremendous service and I wish each of them well for the 2013-14 season.”
Between now and Easter around 4,000 volunteer lifeguards will spend over 200,000 hours keeping a watchful eye on over 80 beaches throughout the country.
