Prize puts West Coast on the map again
The West Coast shines once again with the award of the Man Booker Prize to author Eleanor Catton, Labour’s MP for West Coast-Tasman Damien O’Connor says.
“This is an outstanding achievement.
“As West Coasters, we are always proud of people who highlight our region, its heritage, history and wild ways.
“The novel ‘The Luminaries’ is set on the Hokitika goldfields in 1866, and is a mystery and ghost story.
“Once again the West Coast is the setting for international attention and I am thrilled it is for something so inspiring and positive.
“Eleanor Catton’s win will hopefully encourage more people to visit us and enjoy our unique hospitality,” Damien O’Connor says.
